We’re in our element right now. Although, we do miss seeing your smiling faces.

    • Start your search for books, journal articles, and all types of information using various tools and links on the library website
      • HOT TIPS TO SEARCH THE LIBRARY:
        • Books, journals (not articles), music, maps: Start with “search the library” box

        • Films: Subject Guide – Audio and Video Resources

    Service

Course materials and Online Reading Lists

Because of health and safety requirements regarding quarantine periods for physical items, lending print textbooks for short term loans will not be possible in Fall 2020. Library staff can help instructors identify library materials, or alternative sources of course material that is both online, and no-cost or low-cost to students.

The Library has purchased a new Course Materials & Reading List system, which is integrated with eClass. Faculty are encouraged to add this tool in their eClass and easily create their reading lists, which can be reviewed by library staff for access to each resource.

    Physical Collection

    Curbside Pick-up

Do you need to borrow items in our physical collection? You can request books and collect them from our Curbside Pick-up locations: Rutherford Library in Edmonton and Augustana Library in Camrose.

We’ve been lending UA Library materials to UA staff & students since late June. For Fall 2020, you will also be able to request items from participating NEOS Libraries.

Research is still developing about COVID-19 on circulating items so they spend 3 days in quarantine after they are returned and our stacks are still closed for browsing.

    Space

Cameron Library is open with restrictions. All other library locations remain closed.

    • Cameron Computing and Study Space (main floor and basement) – by reservation only; remains restricted to students, staff, faculty only. Occupancy will be expanded to 150.
      • Hours: Mon-Friday: 8a – 6p  / Saturday: 11a – 6p / Sunday: CLOSED
      • Cameron Library will be closed Monday, August 31 to transition to higher occupancy for the Fall semester. Thank you for your understanding.
    • We have a new seat booking/check-in system to ensure safe shared use of the space. Starting September 1, you must have a reservation to enter Cameron Library. Students and Staff may book up to 2 days (48 hours) in advance for a maximum of 2.5 hours at a time (one booking per day). Link coming soon!

Like many other festivals this year, Cariwest Festival has been moved to an online platform from August 7th to 9th. The year 2020 would have marked the 36th Cariwest Festival in Edmonton, a festival that aims to bring the culture of the Caribbean carnival to the City of Edmonton. We will surely miss this amazing event that brings us colours, music, cuisine, fashion and joie de vivre from the Caribbean. For those…

  • There is no denying that a strong connection exists between family (blood or chosen), friends, food, and festivity. A highlight of summers-past in the City of Edmonton includes the ever-popular and wildly tasty Heritage Festival; an August long weekend sun-soaked celebration of our multicultural city. During this time, Hawrelak Park comes alive with a diverse display of various ethnic delights, including food! The current pandemic climate continues to change agendas;  we are…

  • Stitching the Curve: An Update

    by Hanne Pearce
    by Hanne Pearce

It has now been well over five months since a group of us University of Alberta Library staff began a data physicalization project to stitch Covid-19 data in Canada. It’s a project that we called “Stitching the Curve”. This is a little update on this data physicalization project’s progress.  To quickly recap the project, members of our team have all selected provinces to either knit or crochet. Our colleague and fellow knitter,…

  • Being a grad student is not easy. Take a deep breath, because the library provides a great many services specifically for graduate students; all of which are still readily available online – and I am happy to share them with you. To better outline these services I will present them in sections based on the different phases of a graduate program. Coursework & Labwork Finding detailed research for work you are doing…

  • With the majority of students and staff being advised to work and study from home, this is how our librarians are supporting online learning… Sarah Shaughnessy, librarian from the Bibliothèque Saint-Jean (BSJ) mostly enjoys working at home, although her computer’s camera gives her a constant reminder that her home office needs painting, cleaning and repairs. “My BSJ colleagues say this giant drywall patch looks like a cloud.  I’ve thought about putting a…

  • As promised, the sequel to our epic list of staff reading recommendations is here! These picks go great with long sunny day on the patio – hammock recommended, but not required – and a nice, cool beverage. Mireille’s Pick Garden Bugs of Alberta by Ken Fry, Doug Macaulay, Don Williamson – Curbside pickup “My pick is Garden Bugs of Alberta. Not something you would read cover to cover, but useful and instructive.…

  • Summer 2020 will definitely be a summer to remember. With a deadly disease threatening the entire world our society has been; isolated, quarantined, stranded in foreign countries, locked down on cruise ships, separated from loved ones, not to mention that schools shut down and businesses were closed around the world. At the cusp of all this madness there was North American toilet paper shortage! Wait a second! This sounds like the plot…

  • Sunday, June 21 is Father’s Day! As we all prepare to celebrate at a safe distance and virtually, some of us here at the library wanted to share a pictures of our Dads. This is our Pubic Services Librarian Doris Wagner with her Dad, Theo, back in 2014. This lovely picture was taken at Mount Washington Skiing Alpine Resort on Vancouver Island. Since Theo lives in BC and Doris here in Alberta…

  • In times of change, it’s also important to look back and reflect. To do that, we created an infographic of how UAlberta Library responded to the COVID-19 quarantine directives to provide library service and support the campus community. The library is here for you online (and always has been!)
