Congratulations to you, University of Alberta graduate!

You’re ready to hit up the real world with your brain full of academic wonder, but what happens when someone tries to challenge your knowledge base once you’ve left U of A’s bunny-frolicked campus grounds? Which academic resources can you use as an alumni to solidify your arguments?

Fear not! Your University of Alberta Library has got your back!

First, stop by the ONEcard office to get your Alumni card. Next, bring your Alumni ONEcard to any of our U of A library locations for us to activate it as your new borrowing card! Your Alumni library access allows you to borrow up to 30 books, periodicals, or other specialized materials from any our U of A library locations and NEOS Consortium partners. Additionally, your Alumni ONEcard will score you some other great perks.

Join us on-campus to do your research and pick up a Library Network Access ID at a service desk (using your photo ID or a current Alumni ONEcard) so that you can dive into most of electronic databases. Please note: there is a subset of databases that are restricted to current students, staff and faculty only. If you’re an armchair academic and would like to search these databases from your couch, sign up to access our Alumni e-resources or check out open access sources such as ERA or the Directory of Open Access Journals.

No matter what your alumni library needs are, our fantastic library staff are available to help you. Just Ask Us or stop by any of our library locations to chat with our folks in person!

Love us on the blog? Chances are, you’ll love us on social media! Follow us, @uofalibrary, on Instagram & Twitter!

Hi, I’m an 1995 U of A alumni, I just wonder if I can use the U of A library e-resources? I’m now residing in Toronto, I would have difficulty coming to Edmonton to apply for any library card in person. Is there any fees for that?

Thx,

Samson Lam

Hi Samson! Thanks for reaching out, always great to hear from alumni! Due to our publisher agreements, alumni only have two options: 1) they can access our full collection of e-resources on-site with a temporary login generated when government photo ID is presented to our service desks or 2) they can access the small Alumni suite of e-resources mentioned in the blog. As you are in Toronto, great academic library options could include the U of T (https://onesearch.library.utoronto.ca/public) or Toronto Metropolitan University. If you’re close to York University, they offer guest accounts for computer access (https://www.library.yorku.ca/web/ask-services/printing-and-computing/computing/guest-accounts/). I hope this helps you out. Cheers, Junelle.
