Do you want to make your course materials available for your students through the University of Alberta Library, but have not had time to learn and use our Talis Aspire system? We know you have a lot on your plate and we want to help. Please try out our Mediated Course Materials Service! We will pilot this service for instructors to have reading lists created in Talis Aspire by the Course Materials Team for the Fall 2024 semester.
This mediated service will allow instructors to submit their syllabus with their course readings via our online form, after which our Course Materials Team will generate an online reading list in Talis Aspire with direct links to your electronically accessible readings. This can include scans from print books when permitted by fair dealing guidelines. Course materials staff will also make sure that all print books are added to the course materials collection for easy access by students.
Our hope is that this pilot will provide instructors with access to all the benefits of a Talis Aspire reading list while streamlining the process for users. These benefits include having an organized copy of your list that can be dropped directly into your eClass or Canvas course, which your students can use to directly access readings. Students can use Talis to track which readings they’ve completed, and instructors can access analytics indicating how much use each of their readings is receiving throughout the course.
This pilot will be running in the lead-up to Fall 2024. Syllabus submissions should be made as soon as possible to give the Course Materials Team the required time to process your requested resources.
Many thanks to our University of Alberta Library (UAL) Course Materials Team for authoring this post.
